The Crljenak as a sort is mostly softer than Plavac Mali (the father sort of Crljenak) with lighter tannins and more expressive fruit aromas. The wine will be spiced up (because of aging in oak) with smoky aromas and you will have balanced notes of cloves and leather. They are followed by fine fruitiness which then takes the word and dominates to the finish. Perfectly balanced acids and finely smoothed tannins. The sort Crljenak was brought to the USA and today is it recognized under the name Zinfandel.
It is recommended with all meat dishes of lamb, game, stews, and mature cheeses. Serving temperature 15 – 18 °C.
